Central Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr. Farooq Sattar on Saturday called for prompt and strict action against ‘land mafia, drug mafia and arms mafia’ to ensure peace in the metropolitan city, The News reported.

At a hurriedly called press conference, the MQM leader flanked by members of MQM Rabita Committee Raza Haroon, Nasreen Jalil and Wasay Jalil, alleged that the Awami National Party (ANP) continued to function as a political party until it was led by Baccha Khan but ‘now the sole objective of the party is to patronize land mafia, drug mafia and an armed group’.

“It was ANP’s armed terrorists who attacked MQM’s office, killing one of our worker while (some) other party members who were seriously injured are still under treatment at a hospital,” he alleged.

Dr. Farooq Sattar said ‘land grabbers’ are challenging the writ of the government and called for steps to put a strict check on the same.

Dawn report said Interior Minister Rehman Malik arrived in Karachi on Saturday to address the issue target killings in the city.

Malik was briefed on the current security situation in the city by the Director General of Sindh Rangers at Rangers Headquarters.

He then met Governor Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ibad, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Provincial Interior Minister Zulfiqar Mirza where he held talks with the senior officials.

The Interior Minister then held a high-level meeting with Inspector General Singh, DG Rangers, CCPO Karachi, Sindh Interior Secretary and other senior police officials.

After the meeting, Malik vowed to clampdown on violence in the city and assured stern action against those involved in the recent spate of violence.

“I have directed the police officials to keep an eye on suspects and increase the security in Karachi,” Malik said
