N Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has urged the international community to step up efforts in helping the flood-stricken people of Pakistan.

“I am here to share my sympathy and solidarity on behalf of the United Nations with the government and people of Pakistan,” he told newsmen at Benazir International Airport after arriving in Pakistan today (Sunday).

The UN Secretary General said he would make a visit to the affected areas to see the plight of flood victims.

He assured the United Nations would mobilize all necessary assistance to help Pakistan in helping the displaced people.

“I am also looking forward to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani,” he said.

The whole world, he said, is behind the people of Pakistan at this difficult time.

Speaking on this occasion, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked Ban Ki-Moon for his support and assistance for Pakistan’s flood victims. SAMAA
