Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said that a country where drug mafias and corrupt are pardoned on presidential orders who would trust us adding that preliminary compensation amount of Rs 20,000 would be given to affected family in the flooded areas prior to Eidul Fitr. Addressing a press conference at 90 Quaid-e-Azam Highway Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that by looking at the magnitude of the floods rulers and people should seek God's forgiveness. He said that Punjab government is taking all out measures for rehabilitation and aid of flood affectees. He said that in the first meeting of National Disaster Management Authority chaired by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani it was decided that initially Rs 20,000 would be paid per family of the flood affectees which was endorsed in the Council for Common Interest Meeting held 2 days before. He said that 50 percent of the amount would be provided by the relevant province and the other 50 percent by the center. He said that this impression is incorrect that all affected families would be provided RS 20,000 prior to Eid. He said that assessment of wreckages in flood-hit areas should be scrutinized from the world companies adding that preliminary compensation amount of Rs20,000 would be given to families of three districts Bhakkar, Layyah and Mianwali where water has started receding prior to Eid. He said that flood victims should get their identity cards because no aid will be provided without them. Flood affected farmers will be provided with free fertilizers and seeds, he said. He added that the aid distribution process will start before Eid, and the provinces will be given relief as per the loss estimation. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani assured transparency of fund disbursement. He said that we have enough wheat resources and there is no fear of any food shortage in the Province
