LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday released Gullu Butt, the baton-wielding man seen damaging vehicles in Lahore during the Model Town incident, on bail and asked him to submit surety bonds worth 100,000 rupees.

Butt came into the limelight after he was caught on cameras brazenly damaging several vehicles in the presence of police during a clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers and police in Lahore's Model Town.

Through his counsel, Butt had submitted that police had wrongly implicated him in the case.

Butt pleaded that he was just passing through the area where the incident had taken place and requested the court to release him on bail.

He added that owners of the cars that were damaged had not filed any complaints and police had made a case on its own.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) Punjab president said that Gullu Butt had been released on the behest of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
