The MQM has announced its decision to pull out of the federal cabinet. The party announced that two of its ministers, Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri, will quit the cabinet. The MQM said that its decision was not meant to weaken the government nor to topple it.

The announcement comes after weeks of tension between the two coalition partners over the issue of the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) bill and over statements made by Sindh Home Minister Zulfikar Mirza about target killings in Karachi.
