ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and former ambassador to US Husain Haqqani have reached Islamabad High Court (IHC) to appear before the memogate commission, Geo News reported Monday.

The commission headed by Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is hearing the memo case today.

The memogate commission formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan is investigating into the issue of memo that was handed over to Mike Mullen through US businessman of Pakistan origin Mansoor Ijaz allegedly on behalf of Pakistan government.

Mansoor Ijaz had also written a letter to the commission in which he said he was ready to visit Pakistan and requested for provision of complete security to him and the evidence he would be in possession of. However, his lawyer Akram Shaikh told that his client was not given the visa to visit Pakistan.

The commission then instructed the Attorney General to issue visa to Ijaz on urgent basis and ensure his security while the commission has also asked to provide additional security to Husain Haqqani.

On the other hand, Army Chief General Kayani has informed the commission in writing that he would not be able to appear before the commission as he is on official visit to China.

Strict security measures have been taken for the hearing.
