ISLAMABAD: A Five-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed the hearing of the case pertaining to the implementation of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) verdict today (Tuesday) and has reserved the verdict till 1 pm, Geo News reported.

During today’s proceedings, NAB declared its inability to take action against the appointment of Malik Qayyum, Adnan Khawaja and Ahmed Riaz in NRO implementation case.

The prosecutor general of NAB informed the court about the appointment of Adnan Khawaja as MD of OGDCL and told that NAB cannot take action against it as he was appointed by the prime minister.

The SC is due to announce the verdict by 1pm today.

The apex court had given January 10 as the deadline for implementing the NRO verdict and summoned certain officials including the federal law secretary and the prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to appear before the court today with their report.

On the other hand, federal secretary for law, justice and parliamentary affairs Masood Chishti has abruptly left for London without assigning his return schedule. He is scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court today in the reopening of graft cases against several people, including Asif Zardari in the NRO case.

Officially no word has been given about his visiting the United Kingdom but he reportedly left the country after seeking permission from the competent authority.

Taking stern action, the apex court had earlier directed the government to implement the NRO verdict without any further delay
