MONTREAL: Eleven people were killed Monday when two vehicles collided on a highway in Canada's Ontario province, police were quoted as saying by local media.

A passenger van with 13 people on board and a truck collided near the city of Stratford, the reports said. Ten of the people in the van and the truck driver were killed, provincial police said.

The media reports said the passengers in the van were foreign workers and that the three survivors, who spoke Spanish, had been taken to hospital.

The accident occurred in an agricultural area where many workers from Latin America are employed.

Stratford, a small city of more than 30,000, is home to a famous Shakespeare festival. (AFP)
