KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab has said that certain segments of the media are collaborating with forces opposed to democracy in Pakistan.

In a news conference held at the party’s secretariat in Karachi, Fauzia Wahab said that similar conspiracies were hatched against democratic goverments in 1973 and 1996.

She said that the present government will continue to pursue reforms towards good governance despite the designs of non-state actors.

She also lauded the president’s efforts for the federation adding that President Zardari’s policies have marginalized separatist elements while bolstering reconciliation among the disenfranchised people of Baluchistan and NWFP.

While at the same time Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira says democracy has never been given a fair chance in the country.

Addressing a news briefing in Hafizabad, Kaira said that his party believes in accountability, not revenge.

He said that the PPP is still parient despite the character assassination of party leaders by some elements.
