  1. IPL Snub: Now You See It Now You Don’t!

Easing of IPL-Pak row seems to be on the radar.

The warring neighbors do not have a choice. Politics is the last refuge of the scoundrel and sports the “sweet n low” of modern diplomacy.

Undiplomatically speaking, both the countries live too close for comfort. We should have had more space in between us both physically and politically. There are no natural boundaries between us thanks to the famous border commission of the pre-1940s. What an imperial conspiracy phew!

After all with so many previous rows peddled behind, why won’t this one be pushed behind too?

Can you imagine a nuclear skirmish or even a bow and an arrow battle over bats and balls left behind by the colonialists?

What’s so desi or izzat ka masla about it? None!

At the end of the day our cricketers gonna make money out of the IPLs. Not us. The return on national investment will remain dismal while our sports babus fatten their wallets. So why a national hue and cry? Is it: Habit? Skewed thinking? Dillusion? Misplaced emotions? Lack of rationale? Hype? Or all of it?
In a clear shift towards a spirit of accommodation, Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi said on Tuesday that a “window of possibility” was still open for Pakistani cricketers to play in IPL-3 and in the Champions League later this year.

Shahid Afridi, the T20 captain of Pakistan, too seemed ready to “forgive and forget”, and said he was willing to play in India if picked by an IPL team. For even $250,000 I would too. That’s a lot of money any where specially in USA these days with national unemployment rate hovering around 10%. There were 4.2 million job losses in 2009 on Obama’s watch.

“When you think about it, Pakistan and India have much more in common than there are differences. We need to build our relations rather than break them. Sport should be used to build peace between our great nations, not break them… Although Pakistan and India have borders, these borders cannot divide humanity,” said the former Deccan Chargers player. Good for him. But does our PCB get anything out of IPLs moneywise?

Afridi counted the change (in dreams) and figured out money talks b**l shit walks! When he woke up ghairat was set aside and wallet was checked for replenishment.

Show me the money as Jerry McGuire’s famous oneliner punch statement reverberates in my mind.

Shall we now say let the party begin with the cheerleaders on our border?

Not yet. The Amn ki Asha pipe dream is on while the ground realities are being batted on!

Who is holding the ball any way?
