Dozens of Insaaf Students Federation (ISF) workers on Wednesday staged a peaceful demonstration against the Islami Jamiat Talaba members for beating their colleagues in the Punjab University.

ISF is the students’ wing of Imran Khan’s Tehreek-i-Insaf while Islami Jamiat Talaba aka Jamiat is the students wing of Jamaat-i-Islami. Both political parties’ are close on national agenda but their students organizations have a history of going loggerheads with each other in Punjab University which has traditionally been the Jamiat’s bastion of power.

In November 2007 PTI chairman Imran Khan was reportedly mishandled by Jamiat workers and supporters as he attempted to stage a protest at the campus against then President Gen (R) Musharraf.
The Insaf protest demo today was held outside the Lahore Press Club. The demonstrators were holding banners and placards calling for the arrest of IJT members. They chanted slogans against the Jamiat and its violent activities.

The ISF protesters condemned alleged torture of the ISF members.

They demanded immediate arrest of the IJT members for allegedly violating law and order. The ISF student leaders said any activity of torturing students in or outside the university area was a highly condemnable act.

Protesters warned the university administration that the situation could worsen on the premises if no action was taken against the accused.
