RAWALPINDI - PCB XI beat British Army XI by 45 runs in an exhibition T20 cricket match played here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
British Army skipper invited PCB XI to bat first after winning the toss his decision paid off as PCB XI were soon in trouble as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. At one stage PCB XI were struggling at 113/6 but Babar Azam then saved the PCB XI from total disaster and cracked 62 runs and helped Pakistan post 165 runs in the allotted 20 overs. He cracked five fours and three sixes. Ttest discarded Faisal Iqbal made 27 while Asad Shafiq also added 24 runs. For British Army XI, skipper Jacques Prinsloo was the pick of the bowlers by grabbing 3 for 18.
British Army XI had three Pakistani players at their disposal including former skipper Shaoib Malik, Imran Nazir and Azhar Ali. Imran once again disappointed the large crowdas he went out on t 1. Azhar Ali (39), Russel Emmanuel (26) and Shoaib Malik (17) tried to achieve the winning target but it was too little and too late as British Army were bundled out for 120 runs in 19.2 overs.
Aizaz Cheema ripped through the British Army batting and took 3 for 6 in 4 overs while Yasir Arafat and Asad Shafiq also got 2 wickets each conceding 23 and 42 runs respectively. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ch Zaka Ashraf, Deputy High Commissioner UK Embassy in Pakistan Alison Blake, Islamabad Region President Shakil Sheikh, Army Sports Board Director Brig Iqtidar Naseer, Col Waseem, high ranking British embassy staff along with other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Babar Azam was named man of the match for his brilliant knock, test umpire Riazudin and Qaiser Waheed were the field umpires while M. Asif Yaqoob was the TV umpire.
