India vs Pakistan Hockey World Cup Match: India outplayed Pakistan 4-1 in the men’s field Hockey World Cup on its dramatic opening day Sunday.
The match was also of huge significance for India and Pakistan on diplomatic front as both the countries are meeting in the sporting arena in India for the first time after 26/11 Mumbai carnage.
Sandeep Singh banged in two penalty corners to help India record their first win in the last four matches against Pakistan before some 19,000 delirious home fans at capital Delhi’s Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

India led 4-0 before Sohail Abbas, the world’s only player to score more than 300 international goals, narrowed the margin for Pakistan by converting just one of his six penalty corners in a thrilling Pool B match of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
With this victory India had avenged their 3-6 Champions Challenge defeat at the hands of the sub-continental rivals in Salta, Argentina last December, wrote Indian newspaper DNA.
Shivendra Singh scored India’s first goal in a penalty corner in the 27th minutes into the match. India’s position only grew stronger from this point on as Sandeep Singh hit the second goal in the 35th minute, 3rd goal was scored by Prabhjot Singh in the 37 minute while Sandeep Singh made his second and India’s fourth goal in the 56th minute.
Although Pakistan got a number of opportunities to score a goal but it failed to make use of them till the 59th minute when Sohail Abbas hit Pakistan’s first and last goal of the match.
