President Asif Ali Zardari said on Tuesday that there will be no cut in the defence expenditure since the country is engaged in a war at present. However, a cut has been placed on other sectors in the next budget. Zardari said his government was focusing on a policy of reconciliation and tolerance and would never let the country be taken hostage by non-state actors. Addressing participants of a security course at the National Defence University (NDU), the president called for building up capability of the defence forces of the country to meet any eventuality. The president said Pakistan desired peaceful coexistence with all its neighbours but pointed that "intentions can change anytime" and the country and the nation must remain vigilant and prepared for any eventuality. The president said that he expressed his concerns over water crisis and situation in Balochistan to his Indian counterpart.
