Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan were banned indefinitely, while Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved were suspended for a year and fined after an inquiry blamed infighting within the team for the poor performance on tour in Australia.

The board also fined all-rounder Shahid Afridi, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and batsman Umar Akmal.

“The board took the right decision in the given circumstances and due to what happened in Australia,” Pakistan’s chief selector Mohsin Khan told reporters on Wednesday.

“... (But) the board may reverse the bans and fines if the players submit written apologies accepting their offences.”

Former captain Yousuf retired from international cricket on Monday in protest of claims that he was a disruptive influence on the team during the Australian series and Afridi has lodged an appeal against the fine imposed on him.

Yousuf has already been assured that he has an international future, with the chief selector telling him to reconsider his decision to retire.
