Showing their reservations on certain clauses of the 18th Amendment, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) said that they might challenge the Amendment on the plea that it had destroyed the entire structure of the Constitution of 1973. This statement was given out by members of the associations in a joint press conference here on Friday. The lawyers also opposed the proqcedure outlined for the appointment of judges and maintained that the judicial commission can only recommend the names, the real authority was with the parliament and the parliamentary committee. They said that certain clauses in the new Amendment have left little room to exercise democracy in its true spirit. The lawyers now intend to hold another meeting in which they will decide whether to take out protest rallies against the Amendment or to challenge it.
