CHITRAL: Nomination papers of former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf have been accepted by the Election Commission for NA-32, Chitral, SAMAA reported.

Representatives of Jamat-e-Islami, PML N and an independent candidate had filed their objections over Musharraf’s nomination papers, blaming him for abrogating constitution and the Lal Masjid operation.

The local Returning Officer, however, rejected the objections and accepted his nomination papers filed by the former military ruler and chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Pervez Musharraf from the National Assembly constituency NA-32 of Chitral.

Earlier today, Musharraf’s nomination papers were rejected by the ECP from NA-250 Karachi after he failed to appear before the RO despite being summoned repeatedly.

In Karachi, Akhtiyar Ali Channa Advocate and rival candidate from NA-250 Naimat Ullah Khan Advocate, who is former mayor of Karachi, had raised objections against Musharraf’s candidature in judges sacking case.

In their objection, they stated that Musharraf was ineligible to contest elections since he facing several cases.

His papers have also been rejected in NA-139, Kasur.

The former army chief returned last month after nearly four years of self-imposed exile to contest a May 11 general election despite the possibility of arrest on various charges and death threats from the Pakistani Taliban. – SAMAA
