KARACHI: A candidate of Awami National Party (ANP) was killed in a firing incident in Karachi, SAMAA reported Friday.

Sadiq Zaman Khatak, who was contesting election for National Assembly constituency NA-254, was targeted by unidentified gunmen outside Rehmania Masjid in Korangiís Bilal Colony, police said.

Khatakís five-year-old son was also killed in the attack. Officials said four other people were also injured when the armed men opened indiscriminate fire.

Police termed the murder as an incident of Ďtarget-killingí.

Khatak was moved to Jinnah medical hospital in injured condition where was pronounced dead on arrival.

The assassination came eight days ahead of the May 11 general elections in which maintaining law and order situation and providing security to candidates is seen as a challenge for the caretaker government in the wake of Talibanís threat of attacks to PPP, ANP and MQM, exempting PML-N, PTI, JI and JUI-F.

Another firing incident took place in Paposh Nagar area where a political worker was shot dead, triggering shopkeepers to shutdown markets and all kind of business activities out of fear. -- SAMAA
