Supreme Court Bar Association on Wednesday has challenged the 18th amendment in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The SCBA leadership claimed that the step has been taken for ensuring the supremacy of the constitution and the courts in the country. Following the decision taken by the executive committee we have filed the writ petition in the Supreme Court, said President SCBA Qazi Anwar. Anwar said that it is against the mandate of the parliament and further more it damages the basic structure of the constitution. The petition has been filed despite the objections raised by some prominent lawyer leaders questioning the jurisdiction of the court. The petition also generated the debate whether the parliament representing the 170 million population of the country is supreme or the opinion of a lawyer body comprising only thousands of its members.
