Lahore High Court has declared posting of Lahore Police chief Ahmed Raza Tahir as null and void.

The court had taken suo moto notice of the appointment of Ahmed Raza Tahir as CCPO Lahore.

Two-member bench of LHC headed by Chief Justice Khwaja Sharif in its decision questioned, " how a police officer can be given such key police office, who has been held responsible in judicial inquiry of Gojra tragedy."

Advocate General Khawaja Haris informed the court that the government of Punjab has written letter to the federal government to take action against the persons responsible for Gojra tragedy including Raza Tahir. He said four officials were considered for posting as CCPO Lahore and Ahmed Raza Tahir was found most eligible among them.

Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had appointed D.I.G. Bahawalpur Ahmed Raza Tahir as CCPO Lahore after retirement of former CCPO Pervez Rathore on May, 2010.
