The government on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Salim Raza from his position as the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan.

SBP Deputy Governor Yaseen Anwar has been appointed as the acting governor. According to sources, a few days ago Raza had expressed his desire to leave his position before he hit the retirement age.

Private TV channels have reported that President Asif Ali Zardari has accepted the resignation of the SBP governor. They reported that Raza had resigned due “personal reasons”.
