Unknown armed men shot dead on Saturday the son of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, ARY NEWS reports.

Police say Mian Rashid Hussain, 25, was on a walk along with his friend Amjad when he was shot dead.

The shooting took place in Naushehra district, the hometown of the KP Information Minister.

Rashid died on the spot while his friend suffered fatal bullet wounds and was rushed to Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital.

The attackers fled from the scene. Police surrounded the area and launched a search for the killers.

Deceased Mian Rashid Hussein was Deputy Director in Peshawar Development Authority (PDA).

He was the only son of KP minister and Awami National Party (ANP) leader who had always been highly critical of the Taliban.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik blamed the attack on Taliban militants. He said government ministers and their families had been on an insurgent hit list.

Religious and political leaders across the country condemned the murder.
Talking to a news TV, ANP leader Asfanyar Wali said the assassination of loved one could not deter the partly leadership from raising voice against militancy and terrorism.

“These are the dirty tactics the terrorists using against our party… We will continue to condemn and fight against extremism,” he vowed, adding that “there would be no change in our policy towards the local militancy and insurgency.”
